no more bloggers’ block for this girl
my most sincere apologies for the little lag since my last post, i have two reasons:
i have spent quite a bit of time on purchasing (okay, and figuring out how to purchase/publish) www.woley.net (the new home of this blog) and playing with the design of my blog.
i’ve been suffering from a mild case of blogger’s blockanyhow. onto topics of more relevance (i hope). i have become a big fan of twitter. i assume that the majority of my readers are already familiar with it, but for those of you who may not be, twitter is a microblogging service. think: facebook status (don’t have facebook? shame on you… again). twitter asks what you’re doing and gives you 140 characters to answer. use it however you please.anyways. pc world published an interesting article yesterday called “8 ways twitter will change your life“… and i really liked something they said.
“People are using the microblogging service that allows posts of 140 characters or less for bigger, more important tasks; here’s how it’s evolving.”
in essence, twitter has become a forum for sharing ideas, links, and of course, the reason i’m writing: marketing and branding. it’s the evolution of something as simple as twitter that intrigues me.have you ever heard of woot? it’s an online community that “sells stuff cheap”, and who is now using twitter to promote their hottest daily deals. and guess what? it’s working. they have a following on twitter of 15,945 people… not a number to shake a stick at.
twitter has become an integral element in the conversation between brand and consumer. go ahead, search a brand or product… you just might find it, and then you just might be able to tell them what you think… good, bad, and ugly.countless agencies are using it to keep their clients and fans up-to-date with their current projects, challengings, and musings. science news blog uses twitter to report national weather happenings, local news stations are posting tweets keeping viewers up-to-date on the latest news, barack obama is even twittering to keep voters up-to-date on his campaign.notice a trend? twitter is all about the latest and greatest, it’s about being in the know, it’s about keeping current at the click of a mouse. and beyond that mouse, twitter not only has an SMS option (text your tweets), but there are several downloadable applications for every mobile device you can think of… from twitterberry to quakk as well as other web-based services that offer ways to categorize your tweets, post when twitter is down, organize tweets from your desktop, and even stream your blog through twitter (tweet deck, twitabit, twhirl, twitterfeed, respectively). basically, twitter gets it. they got me hook, line, and sinker anyway… i have twitterberry installed on my blackberry and anytime i’m bored or have an insightful thought, i post it. like i’ve said before, my generation (and those behind me) is all about accessibility… and others have caught on. twitter is a great way to network (it’s being used heavily by both job seekers and employers), share ideas, and most importantly, to learn. i’ve found most of the “inspirations” if you will, for my content through links posted by my twitter friends.
if you haven’t already, check it out. at first, you might feel a bit naked… but i assure you, it’s all there. all twitter is is a constant opportunity to keep people updated on yourself, your work, your thoughts… you’re not missing anything. that’s the beauty of it. it’s just that simple. intermediate or veteran tweeter? check out this list of twitter tools… enjoy! you can follow me on twitter …or you can simply check me out at www.twitter.com/woley either way, thanks for reading!
still looking for work, by the way, and yes… i use twitter to facilitate my search. if you’re an agency or company who is interested in what i have to say, please feel free to comment, @reply on twitter… you name it, get a hold of me however you prefer. i’d love to hear from you.
